A Stamp Set is not just for Christmas

We are so lucky here in Colchester to have one of the UK’s top Zoo’s on our doorstep. There is a huge variety of animals there including two colonies of Penguins. When friends came to stay last summer, their youngest was just starting to walk and it was adorable watching him and the penguins interact via a glass wall. I wanted to capture this magic in a layout.

A Scrabook Layout of Colchester Zoo using Snow Place Stamps

The inspiration for the design of this layout came from a layout by Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator Samantha Eshelman. She used the Jar of Love Stamp Set and matching Framelits to create a series of embellishments. I wanted to use a white 12″x 12″ base, so I added a background of A4 Sahara Sand cardstock to the design, which helped highlight the sand the penguin was standing on.

I love the effect putting an A4 on a 12×12 creates – no faffing to cut off a tiny bit to create a mat!

I combined it with a 4” piece from the ‘Pop of Pink’ Specialty Designer Series Paper. With two boys at home, I’ve been really surprised how much of this paper I’ve used since it was launched – but the black, white and gold are perfect for so many things, with or without a touch of pink!Snow Place Stamps from Stampin' Up!

The Snow place stamps and matching Snow Friends Framelit Dies made creating the embellishments at the bottom of the page easy!

I love that this stamp set comes with so many accessories – it makes it much more versatile. I’ve seen it used for weddings, birthdays, fathers day as well as being fantastic for trips to the Zoo or Sea life centers – it is definitely not just for Christmas!

I used our Basic Black Archival inkpad for the penguins, and used Sahara Sand and Watermelon Wonder Stampin’ Write Markers to colour in the cone, ice-cream and bow stamps. After cutting the pieces out I layered some of the penguins on Stampin’ Dimensionals and little pieces of our Foam Adhesive Strips are perfect for the accessories.

The title was created from the ‘Letters for You’ bundle, it is definitely an investment at £119.50 but is so beautiful and useful. I used Crumb Cake ink to stamp the letters, as I wanted it to be a shade darker than the background. I love that the SU colours provide this ability with ease.
